Dr. Tatsuno attended Kyoto University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in physics in 1995, a Master of Engineering degree in 1997, and a Doctor of Energy Science degree in 2002. He joined the University of Maryland in 2003 as a Research Associate with the Institute for Research in Electronics and Applied Physics. In 2005 he joined the Center for Scientific Computation and Mathematical Modeling as an Assistant Research Scientist, and in 2009 returned to IREAP as an Assistant Research Scientist.

Dr. Tatsuno's research interest is theory and simulation of plasma physics focused on flow, turbulence and magnetic reconnection in both kinetic and fluid descriptions, and development of multiscale numerical algorithms.
