Dr. Carlos Romero Talamás is an Assistant Research Scientist in the Institute for Research in Electronics and Applied Physics at the University of Maryland, College Park. He received a B.S. in Engineering Physics from the Instituto Technológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Monterrey, NL, México in 1995; a Master of Space Studies from the International Space University, Strasbourg, France in 1998; and a M.S. in Aeronautics from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA in 2000. He received a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Applied Physics from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA in 2005. After completing his Ph.D., he worked at the Sustained Spheromak Physics Experiment (SSPX) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
His research interests span laboratory and astrophysical plasmas, and include magnetic topology changes through reconnection in force-free plasmas, magnetic self-organization, and fusion energy science and technology.
